Comparison
An AoE2 Companion alternative that tells you what to do next
AoE2 Companion is a genuinely great piece of work and the reference tool for looking up a profile, a match or the leaderboard — it is also, openly, one of the public data sources this app reads for player and match data.
Where AoEII Assistant is different is what happens after the lookup. It is built as a coach rather than a record: it mines build orders out of real ranked replays, writes a scouting report on your next opponent, ranks your execution against your own ELO bracket, and talks to you while you play.
What AoEII Assistant brings to the table
Every row below is something the app does today. We have deliberately not written a column of crosses against AoE2 Companion — their feature set is theirs to describe, it changes, and a stale comparison table helps nobody.
| Capability | What it means in a game |
|---|---|
| Civ win rates by ELO and map | Segmented by rating bracket, map and ladder — not one pooled number. |
| Build orders mined from real ranked replays | Parsed from actual games, with win rate and sample size, not hand-written guides. |
| AI opponent scouting report | Reads an opponent's parsed replays and writes what to expect before you queue. |
| Skill vs playstyle profile | Percentile ranking against your own ELO bracket and input device, kept separate from style traits. |
| 3D replay viewer in the browser | Terrain, unit movement and a build-order timeline — no download. |
| Spoken live match companion | Talks to you during the game: age timings, what your opponent is likely doing. |
| Unit counters and combat simulator | Head-to-head unit maths, including civ bonuses and upgrades. |
| Live ranked map pool | Tracks the active rotation automatically as it changes in game. |
| Match notifications for followed players | Push when someone you follow starts a ranked game. |
Questions
Is AoEII Assistant the same as AoE2 Companion?
No. They are separate, unaffiliated projects. AoE2 Companion focuses on profiles, match history and leaderboards. AoEII Assistant is a coaching tool — build orders mined from replays, opponent scouting, execution percentiles and live in-game audio.
Does AoEII Assistant use AoE2 Companion data?
For some things, yes, and we say so openly: the app reads aoe2companion's public API for player profiles and match history, alongside our own replay parsing and aggregation. We are grateful it exists.
Is it free?
Yes. Civ stats, build orders, the map pool, counters and the replay viewer are free on the web app. Premium adds AI scouting briefs, deeper replay analysis and a larger follow list.
Not affiliated. AoEII Assistant is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by AoE2 Companion. AoE2 Companion is named here only to describe how the tools differ. All trademarks belong to their respective owners.
