Tier lists argue; data measures. AoEII Assistant tracks all 45+ civilizations across millions of ranked games and shows you exactly where each one wins — at your rating, on your maps, against the civ you just got matched into.

Each civilization gets a full dossier: bonuses, unique units and technologies with real stats, missing key techs, recommended openings for its playstyle, and the measured layer —
Knowing your civ wins 58% of games past 40 minutes — and your opponent's wins 44% — turns "should I take this fight?" into arithmetic. Deny the fight, reach your phase, win. The same curves feed the Live Companion's spoken phase reminders.
Mid-game, the question is never "what's the meta" — it's "twelve knights are in my woodline, what do I make?" The Counters screen answers exactly that: search any unit and get its counters ranked by effectiveness, with the armor-class math behind each answer, filtered to what your civilization can actually build. Monk-and-pike against knights is only good advice if you have decent Monks.
The Meta screen ranks the current patch's civs by measured win rate with pick rates and trends, and the Maps section shows each ranked-pool map with the civs overperforming on it — so you can pick your bans and your pocket civ from evidence.
Check the best-civs list for the current map pool at your rating bracket, pick two or three whose openings you already know, and stop re-rolling identity every patch. Comfort plus a measured edge beats novelty.
Your main civ's matchup table, sorted worst-first, is a to-do list. For each of the bottom three, the matchup notes say why it's bad and what the plan is — that's targeted preparation the opponent almost certainly hasn't done.
Filter everything to your own rating. Archer civs over-perform where micro is scarce punishment; boom civs climb where games go long. The ladder you play on is the only one whose meta matters to you.
Civ browsing is free. Rating-bracket filters and full matchup depth come with Premium.
